Island Hopping in the Scottish Hebrides, June 2004

Shannon and I, and more than 20 others (mostly from North Carolina), spent most of the month of June enjoying the flowers, birds, gardens, beautiful scenery, good food, beer, and single malt scotch whiskies of the Scottish Hebrides. We stayed on Skye, Tiree, Iona, Jura, and Gigha, and visited Lunga, Staffa, Mull, and Islay. The hotels were especially nice, meals were excellent, companions congenial, and our leaders did an outstanding job of orchestrating activities, leisure, and travel, with numerous ferry rides.

Each island above has about 20 photos and most have links to more photos. The Iona page includes Lunga and Staffa, and the Jura page includes Islay. This page has a sample of photos, reduced in size. Click an image to enlarge it or click an island, above.

I hope you enjoy the summary of our trip. I’m not a photographer, but the Canon A-40 I used did a good job for me – aim and click.

The trip was offered by the North Carolina Botanical Garden and North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciencesand led by English geologist Tim Sumner and Scottish naturalist Jonathan Williams.
